Dear WGJS Family
"Your attitude determines your altitude." This wise saying is nothing new. Sadly however, we often forget to adopt the correct attitude to all our activities, events and daily challenges.
As parents, we need to set a good example by encouraging our children and also remembering that our children watch our actions and behaviours. Is your attitude worth catching? Never forget that your attitude is your choice. You are the only person who can decide to harness the power of choice. As you ponder that decision, consider this: There is a choice you have to make in everything you do. So keep in mind that in the end the choice you make, makes you. If someone isn't purposely choosing to have the right attitude, then she is choosing to have the wrong attitude. The choices we make in life don't stay chosen by themselves. "Successful people make right decisions early and manage those decisions daily." Decision management is underrated. We think that our good decisions will automatically stay good, but they don't. Every right decision we make must be managed every day. A challenge to all our girls is to adopt a positive attitude to all Wynberg Girls' Junior School activities, events and opportunities. Speech Therapy We would like to congratulate Samantha Coetzee on her appointment to a speech and language therapy post at Eros School with immediate effect. This was a very last minute appointment, and Samantha is sorry to be leaving at such short notice. Judy George will be taking over her cases from the beginning of August. Should any parents have queries or concerns they are welcome to contact her via cell-phone: 073 7431008 or email: judylgeorge@encosion.com Safety and security A huge thank you to parents who have ensured that their daughters are collected timeously or attend Aftercare. We do understand that parking and traffic around the school remains a constant headache. To ensure the safety of all our girls, drivers are reminded to refrain from driving into the school grounds or staff parking areas. Family Matters It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of one of our parents during the school holidays. Mr Adams leaves his wife and four children (Hannah in Grade 5). Our condolences to the family and we, the Wynberg family, promise to support you in any way we can. Clothing Shop - Mrs Law The Clothing Shop will be open from 09h00 - 12h00 on Saturday 7th August. A reminder that the shop does not have debit / credit card facilities. Music Department - Miss Leonard We would like to remind you of the following music events in the third term. Yes, it is finally our READATHON WEEK! Our theme is "Children's Classic Stories". Each child in the school has already received a notice on green paper, which has all the details about this exciting event. Please help your daughter to find 5 or more sponsors. The big "read" will take place on Friday, during the day. Remember that fancy dress day is on the same day - and so is the bumper book sale in the hall, from 10h30 till 15h00. There is a guest speaker coming to visit ALL the girls in the school, on Wednesday.
The Cape Town Book Fair is being held from 31 July to 2 August, at the CTICC. I shall list some wonderful events taking place especially for children:

- Sat 31/7 "Book Boggling Quiz" (8 - 10 years): 15h30

Bursar's Office
It has come to our attention that a number of parents are sending cash to school with their children for various reasons and are not enclosing it in envelopes.
We request that ALL monies sent to school are placed in a clearly marked, sealed envelope. Please include your daughter's name, class and purpose for payment on the envelope. This is to ensure that money sent does not go missing between home and the bursar's office as well as to ensure the safety of the learners. These envelopes are then to go to your daughter's class educator at the start of the school day and will be collected from the class by the Finance Office daily.
Should you need to send money for various reasons on a particular day, please enclose the correct monies in individual envelopes, as not all monies are receipted by the Finance Office and need to be distributed between various outside service providers and extra-mural educators.
Please note that under no circumstances do we give change.
Parenting 911 - Ken Resnick
No doubt all parents remember the sleepless nights when their babies with teething, suffering from colic or other midnight worries. As children grow, other challenges face us as parents. How do we deal with a child who does not have a good attitude, how can we get our children to participate in household chores, keep their rooms tidy, and countless other challenges?
WE CAN LEARN FROM THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN THERE AND DONE IT.
All our parents are invited and encouraged to attend a Parenting course by Ken Resnick on 4th August at Wynberg Boys' Junior School from 18h30 - 21h30. His parenting course is being discounted from R1500 to R100 for a three hour session.
He presents an enjoyable evening with excellent easy strategies to make aspects of parenting less of a fight and more of a pleasure.
The talk is for parents of children from Grade R to Grade 4. A number of tickets are still available, and we encourage you to attend this very informative presentation. Please send payment in a clearly marked, sealed envelope to our Finance Office to secure your seat.
