MANAGEMENT OF MEDICATION POLICY
POSITION STATEMENT
Although the school views the parents as being responsible for decisions made around medication and are responsible for administering this medication, it is understood that some of this responsibility needs to be carried by the school in parentis locus.
POLICY
Any medication to be taken at school will only be allowed if it is accompanied by a letter from the learner’s parent or legal guardian. If the educator is to administer medication then the letter should state that permission is given along with the required dosage.
If a learner is in need of medication at school, the following may be administered unless the parent has expressly denied permission for this to be allowed.
Headaches Panado Tablets
Age 12 and under ½ tab
Age 12 and over 1 tab
Stomach Pains Buscopan / Hyospasmol
Itchy Bite/Skin Irritation Aqueous Cream / Caladryl Cream / Anthisan / Mylocort
Upset Stomach Valoid
Sprains Ice Gel / Ice Pack / Arnica Gel
Open Wounds Clean with Savlon antiseptic and apply Savlon cream and Bandaid
Menstruation Sanitary Towels
